Hedge funds record huge gains in Q1

Despite a bumper first quarter, many hedge funds are opting to cash in their chips due to an increasing wariness that a sudden change in the market could see them suffer the same kinds of losses that they were suffering in the volatile markets of 2011. Challenge to Microsoft Skype deal from Cisco

Cisco, the networking company, stated this week that it will challenge the Microsoft takeover deal of Skype that is valued at $8.5b to help ensure that Microsoft is not able to block users from using other video conferencing companies.

Microsoft signed the takeover paperwork in October after the European Commission declared the takeover was within the country’s regulations. Microsoft is hoping that by owning Skype it will be better prepared to compete with tech moguls Google and Apple.

However, as the largest computer networking equipment manufacturer, Cisco Systems is concerned that the Skype takeover will interfere with its own video conferencing systems.
